Official website of:
East Orleans Medical Center and the Orleans Parish Hospital Service District A.
The need for a hospital in New Orleans East was created by Hurricane Katrina. Prior to Katrina, Methodist Hospital operated in New Orleans East and was a viable, successful acute healthcare service provider. Lakeland Hospital and other smaller acute healthcare facilities also provided services to residents of New Orleans East.
Today, although it is 2010 and four years after Katrina, there are no operating hospitals in New Orleans East and no ambulatory surgery centers. Not only will a new hospital serve the current residents of New Orleans East and a portion of the adjacent St. Bernard Parish, but it will also help draw more citizens back to the area and spur development of other services for citizens.
